Antique Japanese 1894 or 1925 Kaikosha Retired Officer Silver Jubilee Army Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese sake cup, decorated with an imperial chrysanthemum in the middle and the words "Congratulations on Imperial Wedding 25th Anniversary" with a green glaze. The back of the cup has the words "Kumamoto Kaikosha". Kaikosha was a retired officers' organization that is still in existence today for the SDF, but was set up in the Meiji period already for retired officers and other high ranking military personnel. There are three possibilities for this cup's dates - 1894, 1925, or 1949. Since in 1949 the Kaikosha was in a disbanded state - it was disbanded in 1945 after the war and wasn't reformed until 1951, chances are it's either 1894 or 1925 for the Meiji or Taisho emperors, although it's not really possible to tell whose it was for.

Condition: Excellent - slight fading of the gold

Size: 3.25" across
