This is an antique Japanese military lacquered tray, decorated with a cherry blossom with some leaves growing out of it. The words on the back of the tray are "Victorious Return Commemoration" and the soldier's name Arita. It doesn't specify which war this is for, though the writing is of the older style so perhaps Sino-Japanese or Russo-Japanese war?

Condition: Excellent - light blemishes on the tray
