This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the famous three soldiers bomb - three Japanese soldiers who sacrificed themselves charging into Chinese defensive lines to blow a hole in the defensive works, in the process helping to secure victory. They were lionized in the Japanese press and held up as heroes. Here you see the scene depicted with three soldiers carrying the bomb and charging head on in the enemy.
