Very Rare Antique Japanese Military Type 96 Bomber Guangdong Campaign Pewter Navy Sake Cup
This is a very rare antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a picture of what looks to be the Type 96 Bomber (Mitsubishi G3M). The words on the cup are "China Incident Guangdong Invasion Campaign Commemoration" "14th Air Squadron". The wording suggests that this is the naval 14th Air Squadron, which was based in a makeshift air base built on an island near the city of Zhuhai. The Japanese captured this early on in their invasion of China and then used it as a base, as well as bases in Taiwan, to bomb Chinese targets. It's exceedingly rare to have a cup for naval air squadrons with named campaigns.
The cup comes with original wooden box, with the words "Pewter made cup" on the cover. The back of the cup has the name of the maker.
