This is a set of three antique Japanese military sake cups, each decorated with a leaves on waves theme, with a poem on the top right of each with the name of the river Tatsuta River, for which the ship is named. The words on the back are "Shanghai Incident Victorious Return Commemoration" "Warship Tatsuta". Tatsuta was a cruiser was launched in 1918 in the Tenryu class, and was active throughout WW2 until it was sunk in 1944 by USS Sand Lance. Cups with named ships are fairly rare, and ones where this ship participated in an active combat role (in this case supporting the Japanese attack on Shanghai in 1932) even rarer.
