This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the kamon (family crest) of the Shimazu clan. The Shimazu clan was one of the most important families of Meiji Japan - they, along with the Mori of the Choshu area, were instrumental in the Meiji restoration and overthrowing the shoguns. The words on the back are "Meiji 37/38th Years War Victory Congratulations".
