Very Rare Antique Japanese Military 1907 Cruiser Ibuki Launch Ceremony Navy Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is a very rare antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the hull of a ship decked out in celebratory flags and the lantern that hangs at the front. The back of the cup has the words "Meiji 40th Year November 21st" "Warship Ibuki Launch Ceremony Commemoration". This is the Ibuki that became classed as a battlecruiser in 1912. It's probably most famous for having helped escort New Zealand and Australian ships during WW1, among which was its role in the Battle of Cocos. It was scrapped as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty.

Ships at launch are usually just the completed hull, with superstructure being fitted onto the ship afterwards. Since launches only happen once per ship, these are very rare.
