This is an antique Japanese military themed dish/bowl, decorated with a stunning image of a some cavalry looking to cross a stream. The words on the back are "Showa 6th Year (1931) 3rd Division Autumn Wargames Commemoration" and the name of the maker Noritake. The 3rd Division seems to like these very nicely decorated dishes and makes one every year for their annual wargames. I've sold one in the past here. Noritake is still in business today as a maker of premium dinnerware.
