Very Rare Antique Japanese Military 1940 Manchukuo Emperor Puyi Visit Osaka Lacquer Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is a very rare antique Japanese lacquer sake cup, decorated with a modified version of a Manchukuo state emblem on the front. The words on the back are "Manchukuo Emperor Visit Commemoration" and "2600th Year Imperial Calendar July 6th" and "Osaka Customs". There's a label under the lid of the box which explains what this was. Basically, the Manchukuo emperor Puyi visited Japan for the second time in 1940 to help celebrate the supposed 2600th Year of the Imperial Calendar of Japan. He left Japan via Osaka by taking a ship - he was on the battleship Hyuga. Because he passed through Osaka, the Osaka customs was responsible for taking care of his exiting trip, which is why they got money for this visit and they made this cup to commemorate the event. It's quite rare to find cups from 1940 or later, especially when related to a specific event like this for the Manchukuo, which are quite rare to start with.
