Antique Japanese 1899 Lacquer Makie Imperial Palace Army Sake Cup Set
This is a very nice set of 3 stacking lacquered sake cups, beautifully decorated with a gold and silver gilt picture of the imperial palace in Tokyo. The three cups have identical design, and the words on the cup are "Imperial Guard Infantry" "Imperial Palace Double Arch Bridge Scene". On the back of each of the cup are the words "4th Regiment 11th Battalion Meiji 32nd Year (1899) Soldier Commemoration". The soldier's name Kurokawa is in the middle of the back. The makie decoration is very detailed - you can see the outlines of the stones and even the red cap of the soldier standing guard on the left side of the bridge. It's a stunning piece visually. Comes with a wooden box.
Condition: Mint. The box's tie strings are a bit damaged.
