Antique Japanese 1915 Taisho Enthronement Kutani Lidded Yunomi Tea Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese yunomi or tea cup, decorated with a very elaborate set of decorations - a picture of a rising sun and a crane with a tree, a man sitting in front of the waterfall, perhaps a samurai training in front of a waterfall (going under the water)? This fits with the two sword tsuba on the lid itself. The words on the rim of the cup are "Imperial Enthronement Ceremony Congratulations Commemoration". At the bottom of the cup are "Do not forget your origins" which refers to one not forgetting the good deeds others have done for him to get to where he is now. The words under the lid are "Shizuoka Prefecture Iwata Township". This dates the cup to the Taisho enthronement because by late Taisho the township system changed and Iwata Township had a name change.

Condition: Mint

Size: 3" across and 3" tall
