This is an antique Japanese military themed dish, decorated with a scene of soldiers building a bridge while an officer, named Colonel Sato, was looking over at the enemy position across the river (which is labeled Yalu river - the border between Korea and China). The story is that this officer was intrepid and was able to cross the river under enemy and outflanked the Chinese, securing a position and waited for the main army to advance.
