Antique Japanese Military 1895 Sino Japanese War Yalu River Crossing Army Dish
This is an antique Japanese military dish, decorated with a detailed picture of the regimental commander, Colonel Sato of the 18th Infantry Regiment, looking across the Yalu River. Colonel Sato took seven companies of soldiers plus a few cannons and crossed the river at Shuikou town - what he was looking across. This established a beachhead for the Japanese for a further thrust into Chinese territory and this move caused the Qing to sue for peace.
