Antique Japanese Military 1911 Rising Sun Rays Manchuria Lacquer Army Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a sun with rays, with a map of Manchuria with railroads on it. There are also some cherry blossoms. The cities on the map include Changchun, Gongzhuling, Tieling, etc, with numbers on some of them such as "43", "44", "12" and "62" on some cities. I assume these are regiment numbers for where they were stationed. On the back are the words "Meiji 44th Year February Manchuria Liushutun Garrison Imperial Bestowal Commemoration". This is a cup commemorating some kind of gift from the emperor - usually a cash gift and they use the money to commission a cup to commemorate this kind of special occasion. Liushutun is on the map - with the number 12 on top, so I guess this is the 12th regiment.

Condition: One chip of the lacquer paint on the bottom ring. Otherwise excellent condition

Size: 3.25" across
