Antique Japanese Military 1916 Special War Games Imperial Gift Pewter Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the imperial 16 petals chrysanthemum in the center, and the words "Imperial Gift" on top. The words on the exterior are "Special War Games" "Taisho 5th Year (1916) November". These special war games were watched by the emperor so they had special significance among the soldiers, and would get special stipends/gifts for participation. The middle of the ring has the name of the maker, based in Satsuma (Kagoshima prefecture). The lid of the box says "Satsuma Pewter-ware" and under the lid is the name of the maker, from Kagoshima city. Satsuma is known for their pewter products.
