Antique Japanese Military 1930 Kure Garrison Z-Flag Navy Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the Z-flag, the famous flag used by Togo in Tsushima to convey the pre-coded message "The fate of the Empire rests on the outcome of this battle. Let every man do his utmost." This echoes Nelson's message "England expects..." before Trafalgar. The flag came to symbolize Japan's victory there, and the day was marked as "Navy day" from then on. The words around the cup are "25th Navy Day" and "Kure Garrison".
