Antique Japanese Military Biplanes Arita Ware Lidded Army Tea Cup
This is an antique Japanese military lidded tea cup, decorated with three planes on the cup itself and two on the lid, each plane having the signature hinomaru on the wings. These are pretty early planes, and are obviously hand drawn. The inside of the lid says "Arita-yaki" which means this came from the famous Arita kiln in Kyushu. The darker clouds are painted under glaze, and then covered on top with the planes and the gold. The propellers are also underglaze so they give the decorator a place to start painting.
Condition: Mint. I have a few of these and because they are handpainted, there are slight variations in the look of the individual planes. What I send may be minimally different from what you see in the picture.
Size: 3" across and 2.5" tall
