Antique Japanese Military China Incident Callsign Unit Army Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the words on the front "China Incident Expedition Commemoration". The words on the back are "Kanemaru Unit". Names like this are named after their commander, usually, and was for operational units in the field. Unfortunately because these unit names could even be for regimental level, it's difficult to tell what unit it belonged to unless it was especially famous. I did find a Kanemaru Hidezo who was a brigadier general in 1945 when the war ended, and was tried and executed for war crimes in the Papua New Guinea campaign. Rank wise, a colonel commanding a unit in the late 30s/early 40s getting promoted to an area commander in 1945 as a brigadier general is quite plausible. Kanemaru is a pretty unusual name so the probability of it being the same person is fairly high.
Condition: Excellent - the words are darkened, and a very small chip of paint inside the base ring
