Antique Japanese Military Hokkaido Soldier Comfort Item Metal Postcard Box
This is an antique Japanese military postcard box, decorated on the cover with a map of Hokkaido and the southern part of Sakhalin. There's a star on the map of Hokkaido, with the big words "7th Division Soldier Comfort Department" and top right "This comfort item is made and gifted by the Shima civilian soldier support group". I presume Shima is the place of the star, although modern maps don't seem to have this place anymore. Inside the box is an original postcard holding envelope with a Japanese flag and the words "Comfort postcards". The back suggests that this envelope originally included five types of picture postcards of 10 pieces total, 2 pieces of sealed postcards that you can write more personal messages on, and 10 pieces of regular blank postcards. The item is dated Showa 13th year, or 1938.
Condition: The box is a little bit dented on the back and has some surface wear.
Size: 6.5" x 4.25"
