This is an antique Japanese military lacquer tray, decorated with a horse, a flag, and some cherry blossoms. The words are "Imperial Guards Transport Regiment". The soldier's name Terauchi is on the back.
Condition: Some cracking along the edge of the tray, as is quite usual due to the construction method
