This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a red painting of some landscape and a field gun, with a star on top. The background is all goldwash. This is quite unusual as most Kutani cups of this type simply have a star or even nothing inside the gold background. The exterior of the cup has an elaborate glaze decoration and the words "Discharge Commemoration". The soldier's name is also on it but it's a bit smudged. The name of the kiln Kutani is in the base.
