This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a cannon and a star, and the words "Leaving the service commemoration" "Port Arthur Heavy Artillery Battalion" and the soldier's name Hori is on the back. This refers to the Port Arthur fortifications that guarded the port itself.
