Antique Japanese Military Shinto God? Infantry Army Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a person holding out a dish (sake cup?) with a pine tree in the back and a turtle in front of him. I don't know what the mythology behind this guy is. The back of the cup has the words "35th Infantry Discharge Commemoration" and the soldier's name Kawamura. The kiln's name Kutani is in red - Kutani was (and still is) a famous kiln for making nicely decorated porcelain. The cup is a square shape instead of the usual round.

Condition: Mint

Size: 2" across
