This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a type 11 machine gun and a flag with a star on top. The words are "6th Infantry Northern Manchuria Dispatch Victorious Return Commemoration". The soldier's name Ioka is on the back with an embossed cherry blossom and poem pattern. It's not clear what event this referred to - it's not the Nomohan, but probably one of the smaller skirmishes that Japan (and Manchukuo) had with Russia/Mongolia along their borders from the mid 1930s to 1941, when the non-aggression pact was signed.
