Antique Japanese Military WW1 Shandong Dispatch Army Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a pair of flags, a kiri, and a star. The words on the cup are "Shandong Dispatch Commemoration". This is in reference to Japan's invasion of Shandong province during WW1, which at that time was a German holding. They hoped to gain control of the province but was frustrated at Versailles by Woodrow Wilson, and ended up with something less than full control, which was one of the root resentments that the Japanese had over the Americans.
