This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a big insignia of the railroad unit on the front. The words on the back are "1st Railroad Regiment" "Taisho 4th Year to 9th Year War Dead Memorial Service". Taisho 4th to 9th Years would be 1915-1920. This was Japan's involvement of both WW1 fighting Germany and also in the Siberian Intervention in Russia fighting the Communists in 1919-1920. Railroad units were responsible for maintaining railroad tracks and also ensuring supply lines, etc.
