Antique Sino Japanese War 1895 Battle of Weihaiwei Navy Dish

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese dish, decorated with a scene of two pre-dreadnought ships fighting each other in the foreground. The ship on the left is flying the Japanese flag, and the right is flying a "Qing" flag. There are some tall ships in the back, looking like it's docked. This is clearly a scene from the Battle of Weihaiwei - a port where the Chinese navy retreated to after the Battle of Yalu River, and where the Japanese fleet attacked the Chinese ships in anchor. The ships in the back are probably foreign trade ships. The bird on top of the Japanese ship is the Golden Kite - representative of the Japanese god Amaterasu.

Condition: Excellent - the image has some minor smudges in its image

Size: 5" across
