Antique Japanese 1931 Army Special War Games Emperor Guard Duty Commemorative Lacquer Tobacco Box

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese army commemorative lacquered tobacco box, decorated with a very nice picture of a volcano - this is Mount Aso, which is in Kumamoto Prefecture. Under the lid are the words "Army Special War Games Imperial Guard Duty Commemoration" and "Kumamoto Prefecture". From the records it seems the year in which they held war games there was Showa 6 (1931). This refers to a soldier who was probably on duty to guard the emperor during the war games duration. The box is made of lacquered wood with a bottom tray.

Condition: There's a small chip of the paint at the bottom right hand corner of the lid, and some fading of the gold. Otherwise no chips. The bottom tray has some corrosion of the lacquered paint so it's not smooth and shiny anymore.

Size: The box is 5"x4"x1.75". The bottom tray is 6"x5.25"
