Rare Antique Japanese Beijing China Garrison Army Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a star and the words "Beijing Garrison Commemoration" and the soldier's name Uejo. There wasn't much personnel who garrisoned in Beijing. This is either someone who was posted to safeguard the Japanese embassy, or he was garrisoned there during the Boxer Rebellion. The latter is more likely as Northern China was occupied for over a year by the invading armies, mostly Japanese. The words used for "garrison" also suggests something more than a few people posting there but a large unit being actually garrisoned somewhere.
