Rare Antique Japanese Military 1938 Naval Test Award Plaque
This is an antique Japanese navy award. It's a plaque with a samurai's helmet in relief in the center and the word "Award" on top. The smaller words under the helmet are "Navy Test Award" "Showa 13th Year (1938)". The middle part is metal, mounted on a wooden back with an attached wooden stand. Every year the IJN held competitions to test skills of crew, and the winners would get an award. They started out awarding cash, then silver cups, then helmets, then these plaques, eventually porcelain figures of Togo (which I have a copy of on sale).
Condition: Excellent - the plaque itself is in decent condition. The stand part and some of the wood on the back is a bit worn at the edges.
Size: Approximately 7.5" long x 5" wide
