Rare Antique Japanese Military 1939 China Incident SNLF Helmet Navy Lacquer Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a helmet, a katana, and some cherry blossoms. The words on the front are "China Incident Participation Commemoration". The words on the back are "Yokosuka Garrison" "Showa 14th Year (1939)". The helmet has the anchor on it, signaling that this is an SNLF cup - one of the Yokosuka units that were sent to China to fight. The cup comes with original wooden box with a label at the base of the box, with the store's name Matsuzakaya (a department store that still exists) and its location, Ueno in Tokyo.
Condition: Mint. Due to the color change (I think the gilt was originally brighter) the anchor is not really obvious from a distance.
Size: 4" across
