This is an antique Japanese military lacquer rice bowl, decorated on the lid with three planes - two nicely detailed planes - one a biplane, the other a monoplane, and a smaller one further away. Under the lid is further decoration with cherry blossoms and an army helmet with a star, and the name Toku. Under the bottom of the bowl is also the name Toku. The bowl itself is not decorated aside from the name. The craft on the bowl is very detailed. The images are all carved onto the wood then coloured, instead of simply colouring the images.
