This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a phoenix with a kiri and nice gold decorations. The exterior of the cup is decorated with a landscape. The words around the base are "China Tianjin Garrison Discharge Commemoration" and the soldier's name Ibata. Tianjin was a small garrison - there was a Japanese presence but it's not big.
