Rare Antique Japanese Military Heavy Artillery Gunnery Academy Army Sake Cup Set
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup set, decorated each with a badge of the Order of Rising Sun. The words on the cup are "Gift to Army 1st class logistician 8th rank merit" and the soldier's name Kamiyama Toranosuke. The words on the back are "Army Heavy Artillery Gunnery Academy NCO corps". The person who got the cups, Kamiyama Toranosuke, was part of the army's administration branch, and my guess is he was in charge of this particular school's logistics/accounting. Cups like these are often given for someone who's leaving the job for something else. The Heavy Artillery Gunnery School was where officers for the heavy artillery learned their trade from army captains down to NCOs. It was located in Yokosuka. The name changed a few times and this name was in use from 1908 to 1922.
The cups come with original wooden box and a brochure for the shop that made it, located in Tokyo (even has English advertising phrases on it).
