Rare Antique Japanese Military Named Destroyer Nara Navy Lacquer Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is a rare antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a crane on the top half with a naval insignia and a pair of flags. The words on the front are "Gift to Nishio-kun" and on the back are the words "Nara Personnel Same Year Sailors". This refers to the Japanese destroyer Nara - most likely the first one commissioned in 1918 and not the one that was finished almost near the end of WW2. The phrase on the back of the cup means that this was a cup given to Mr. Nishio from other sailors who entered the ship from the same year.

Condition: Excellent - some fading of the gold in the center

Size: 4.5" across
