Rare Antique Japanese Military Named Ship Nisshin Navy Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a chrysanthemum on top, an anchor with a ring around it underneath, and the words "Nisshin Commemoration". The sailor's name Kobayashi is on the back. There are two possibilities for this Nisshin. It could either be the armored cruiser from the Russo Japanese War era that fought in the major naval engagements of that war, or it is the WW2 era seaplane tender. The style of the cup suggests it's much more likely to be the first, the cruiser. The second Nisshin entered service too late and it's not likely to have been a cup of this style, more likely to be a small choko if anything.
Condition: Excellent - some fading of the gold on the left side.
