Rare Antique Japanese Military Osaka Artillery Arsenal High Ranking Officer Vase
This is an antique Japanese military vase, decorated with a phoenix on the front with some kiri. The vase is rimmed on the top and bottom with bronze. The words on the bottom of the bottle are "Osaka Artillery Arsenal High Ranking Officer Leaving Commemoration". This would be for a high ranking official who is departing the arsenal - some kind of going-away gift. The decorations and words are all enamel decorated. The vase also comes with a wooden carved base.
The Osaka Arsenal was the largest military factory in Asia at the time. It was also the only place where the IJA produced its large caliber guns. It was flattened by the US Air Force in August of 1945 right before the war ended.
Condition: Excellent - there's a bit of crazing on the front of the bottle. There's a bit of damage on the wood base.
