Rare Antique Japanese Military Three Human Bombs Shanghai Incident Army Dish
This is an antique Japanese military dish, decorated with three soldiers carrying a long bomb among some barbed wire. This is an image of the "Three Human Bomb" story where three engineers from the army charged the Chinese defenses during the Shanghai Incident and they blew themselves up attacking the enemy line. They were lionized back in Japan as a symbol of sacrifice.
Size: 5" across
Condition: Excellent - there's a spot where the painting didn't make it on the dish (this is an underglaze painting). There's also a dip in the rim along that 4 o'clock area - it's not a chip as the glaze around it is smooth.
