Rare Antique Japanese Navy Cruiser Tone Propulsion Unit Lacquer Sake Cup Set

Regular price $0

This is a rare antique Japanese military sake cup set, decorated each with a pair of flags, a cherry blossom, and the words "Congratulations" "Term Fulfillment". The words on the back of the cups are "Petty Officers of Cruiser Tone Propulsion Division". This is probably a set of cups given to a petty officer who is retiring or done his term, and was paid for by the other petty officers of the ship. It's not known if this is the first Tone, the protected cruiser launched in 1907, or the second the heavy cruiser Tone, launched in 1937. It's more likely to be the first one, because it's had a longer history whereas the second one didn't spend as much time in service. All three cups are identical in design but are different sizes, as is usual for these stacking sets of lacquered cups.

Condition: Excellent - minor surface wear and scratches of the gold

Size: 4.5", 4", and 3.5"
