Rare Japanese Pre-Annexation Korea Suncheong Garrison Unit Army Sake Cup

Rare Japanese Pre-Annexation Korea Suncheong Garrison Unit Army Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a star and a branch of plum leaves, which was the symbol used for the Korean throne before annexation (the annexation medal, for example, has the cross leaves of plum - for Korea - and kiri - for Japan). There's a star on top signifying its defense of Korea. The words are "Chosun Suncheong Defense Unit" and the soldier's name Watanabe. Suncheong is a city in the south near the port city of Busan, and is the location of an old Japanese fort during its first invasion of Korea by Hideyoshi in the 1590s.
