Rare Pair of Russo Japanese War Named Individuals Victory Lacquer Sake Cup
This is a pair of antique Japanese military sake cups. The bigger one is decorated with a dragonfly, a symbol of Japan (Japan's alternative name is literally Island of Dragonflies) and carrying the words "Russia Conquest Commemoration". The smaller cups has a wreath with a star, and the words "Russia Conquest Commemoration" in the center. On the back in the center both cups have the wording "18th Infantry Regiment 3rd Company" and surrounding the center are a number of full names - 13 in total, 6 on the small one, 7 on the bigger one. These might've been people who served with the cup's recipient in the same platoon or something along those lines. It's quite possible that the receiver was the commanding officer and his men collected the money to gift him the cups. There may have been an even bigger cup to form the usual 3 cup set, but that is no longer in existence.
Condition: Mint for the larger cup, the smaller one has a small chip of paint on the edge at 11 o'clock
Size: 3.25" for the larger one, 2.75" across for the smaller one
