Rare Russo Japanese War 1905 Artillery Aiming Competition Qing China Army Sake Cup
This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with an artillery aiming badge. The words are "Artillery Aiming Competition First Class Award" "12th Field Artillery Regiment". The words on the back are "Meiji 38th Year August Russia Conquest Tent Garrison at Qing state Diaopitun". Diapitun is a minor place name - the name literally means "Fur pelt depot", it would be a place in NE China. This suggests it was a field artillery unit that held this competition while on campaign. The cup comes with original wooden box and under the lid is the name of the shop that sold it, located in Hiroshima.
