Rare Russo Japanese War Dragonfly Attacks Eagle Shobukai Rising Sun Lacquer Army Sake Cup Set
This is a very beautiful set of Japanese lacquered sake cups, decorated with a very detailed picture of a dragonfly, which represents Japan, attacking a bird of prey, with a rising sun in the back. The bird is I believe an eagle, which represents Russia. I've seen this dragonfly attacking eagle motif before on other Russo-Japanese War cups. The words on the cup are "Commemoration" and on the exterior has the words "Tagawahachi Village Shobukai". The Shobukai was a government sponsored organization aimed at helping military families (the name is literally Honoring Martiality Association). All three cups have identical writing on them. The cups come in a traditional stacking 3 set.
Condition: Excellent - only very minor scratches of the paint. The back of the biggest cup has one spot near the base ring that has a chip off the paint
Size: 3.5", 4", 4.5"
