This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a picture of General Nishi Kanjiro, commander of the 2nd Division during the Russo Japanese war and participating in a number of engagements. In 1905 he was promoted to full general and was given the job of the head of the Army Inspectorate General of Military Training, which reported directly to the emperor and was the third most powerful position in the Japanese army. The words on the cup are "General Nishi" and the words on the back are "Sole rights to sale" and made by "Kutani Hayashiya".
