Rare Set of 3 Antique Japanese Military 1897-1900 Cavalry Regiment Lacquer Army Sake Cups
This is a rare set of antique Japanese military sake cups. The cups come with an original wooden box detailing the information of the owner. The cups have different designs on the front - one horse, a chrysanthemum/kiri, and a flag. The words on the back of each cup are "Cavalry Meiji 30th Year".
The words under the lid of the box says the following: "Meiji 33rd Year Term Fulfillment Commemoration, December - 4th Cavalry Regiment 6th Company" "Meiji 30th Year Every soldier received one set of custom ordered military sake cups each for the term fulfillment commemoration and to bring home as memory." "Meiji 33rd Year December" "Reservist Army Cavalry Soldier Kawamura Heisaburo".
Under the box there are also the words "Meiji 30th Year December" "Kyoto city --- (a detailed address, somewhere in Kawaramachi) Army Cavalry Kawamura Heisaburo"
It's quite rare to have this much information on the soldier who got cups - exactly how, when, and why he received them, and a personal address, with matching lid and box plus an original set of cups. The cups themselves are also quite beautifully done, especially the bottom one with the horse.
