This is an antique Japanese military dish, decorated with a large red cross in the middle and the words "Meiji 38th Year (1905) September 22nd" and on the back "Gift to Mr. Nakajima". The Russo Japanese war just concluded that month, so this is a dish gifted to someone who was probably coming back from the front as a medic or doctor.
