Russo Japanese War Victory Gift from Asano Nagakoto Lacquer Sake Cup

Regular price $0

This is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with the words on the front "Congratulations on Victorious Return" "Meiji 37/38th Years War". The words on the back are "Lower 1st Rank, 1st Class Order of Rising Sun, Marquis Asano Nagakoto". Asano Nagakoto was the last generation of Japanese daimyos who then became an important public figure in subsequent years during the Meiji and Taisho periods. I've seen this cup before and it's probably a gift from him to military officers that he knew or was gifting it to - perhaps people who hailed from his old domain around Hiroshima, as this cup came together with the dragonfly/eagle cup I'm also posting today. The cup comes with original wooden box with a much eaten through advertisement for the shop under the lid. It also comes with original wrapping cloth with cotton liner.

Condition: Mint. The lid is missing one of the stabilizing bars

Size: 4" across
