Unique Antique Japanese Military Coconut Shell Taiwan Defense Lacquer Cups
This is a really unique pair of Japanese lacquer cups (bowls), each of which is made from a half of a coconut shell. The words on the inside of one of the cups are "Taiwan Garrison Commemoration". The interior is lacquered so it can hold liquids, and each cup also has a metal ring attached to it at the top, presumably for tying it to something. This is quite fitting for the theme of Taiwan, at the time, being thought of as a tropical island of relatively undeveloped agriculture. Quite a nice souvenir to bring back from Taiwan if you were just stationed there for two years!
Condition: Mint for the one with the words. The one without words is cracking a bit on one side - probably a natural thing because the shell shrank as it dried out.
Size: Approximately 5" across at their widest.
