Unique Japanese Military Cavalry Horseshoe Training Commemoration Army Sake Cup
This is a unique cup with an interesting event I've never seen before - the cup is decorated with a horse and a flag, and the words on it are "Cavalry Horseshoe Graduation" and the soldier's name Watanabe. The Japanese didn't use horseshoe until the Meiji period (they used to put sandals on horses). The use of horseshoe was part of the country's modernization project during the Meiji period, so learning how to do it was a new thing and connected to the modernization of the army, since metal shoes were obviously more durable. This is probably for a guy who went through horseshoe training so his job was to probably deal with this while he served.
