This cup is definitely in the "so broken it's good" category - the cup is decorated with a chrysanthemum and the words "Meiji 37/38th Years War Victorious Return Commemoration". What's unique about this cup is the fact that it's very broken, shattered into pieces in fact, and is repaired with nails. This is an old technique for fixing ceramics - they literally drive nails into the cup (or whatever else is broken) but it somehow does not damage the item, but instead keeps it together and is very sturdy. I know of one artisan who can still do this, located in Taiwan, but it's basically a lost art now.
